New Designers 2013

Last week I went up to the Business Centre in London to see part 1 of New Designers 2013 - so worth it. Some absolutely amazing work on display. It was huge, and far too much to see in one day. Part 2 is on this week if you fancy going!
All the Universities and Colleges in the UK took part, who have students doing Contemporary Crafts, Textiles, Media, Graphics, Furniture etc - the list seems endless. Third year and MA students were displaying their work at the part I saw. Some wonderful, wonderful pieces, and inspiring to say the least.
The layout of stands was well done and allowed you to move easily between them: each stand had up to thirty students displaying their items. It was good to be able to speak to the artists about their work, and mostly they seemed happy to do so. Well done to all concerned!

My little vintage loom

I have to produce a few sample of weaving, so my little Weavemaster has been retrieved from hibernation. It belonged to my mother, and we used it as children, so it's good to see it again.
Better luck with this, I hope!!

Knit one, purl one and dropped stitches

I recently went through the torture of trying to learn how to use a knitting machine with some other students.
I was excruciatingly bad at it - definitely not for me. Knitting needles any time, thank you.
After about an hour this was produced, mostly done under the guidance of a fellow student and tutor.
It was the only piece that wasn't full of holes and odd loops. All the others suffered from dropped stitches, wool coming off the hooks when I moved the shuttle over them and so on... aaaagh!
